South Sudan dam and Egypt water share
The government of South Sudan has confirmed its readiness to proceed with the construction of the Fula Dam on the Nile River, despite Egypt's opposition to the construction of new Ethiopian dams due to concerns over its quota of 55.5 billion cubic meters of water. The Fula Dam project is considered one of the largest power generation projects in the country, with an estimated designed capacity of around 1,080 megawatts, highlighting its developmental significance. Egypt urges the comprehensive completion of technical studies and details to ensure that its water share remains unaffected. Emphasis is also placed on the importance of consultation and consensus among the Nile Basin countries before implementing such projects to ensure cooperation and the preservation of all parties' water interests.
