Who influences public opinion
The article discusses the definition of political propaganda, its significance in shaping public opinion, and how both democratic and authoritarian governments utilize various media outlets to spread propaganda messages. It explains that propaganda aims to portray politicians and governments in a positive light, sometimes by promoting an idealized image of the homeland and by embellishing or distorting facts about other countries. The article provides examples of propaganda from media outlets such as Russia Today, disinformation campaigns in Nicaragua, and the banning of two German channels due to spreading misleading information about COVID-19. It also clarifies that media can spread propaganda either intentionally or unintentionally, and that journalists and readers should recognize it by asking critical questions and verifying sources of information, as propaganda poses a threat to democracy and human rights.
