Jordanian King and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Launch Aqaba Train
The United Arab Emirates and Jordan have launched the Aqaba-Shidiya-Ma'an railway project, the largest train project in Jordan, valued at nearly $2.5 billion. The goal is to connect the port of Aqaba with mining and production areas in Ma'an to enhance freight transportation, reduce pressure on roads, create around 5,000 jobs, and cut transportation costs by approximately $40 million annually. The project involves constructing tracks, bridges, tunnels, and engineering facilities to transport about 16 million tons of phosphate and potash annually. It will strengthen Jordan's export sector and give momentum to the development of the southern regions. The partnership between Jordanian and Emirati companies has a broad investment background aimed at developing a modern, sustainable transport system that supports the national economy and fosters bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
