Baghdad worries over US pullout
The article concerns the US withdrawal from Iraq scheduled for September 30 and its potential implications for the country's sovereignty and security. It indicates that the Iraqi government and its political allies are working to implement a plan to restrict weapons to the state and ensure control over unauthorized armed groups, with warnings of economic sanctions on Iraq if the illegal arms carry persists. The article also discusses concerns about the withdrawal's impact on the economy, noting an unprecedented rise in the dollar's exchange rate due to fears of isolation or sanctions, along with a decline in the market and a significant slowdown in commercial activity. It emphasizes the government's responsibility to accomplish the task on time, while ongoing warnings from some religious authorities and experts highlight the potential political, security, and economic risks.
