Israel closes West Bank and Gaza crossings
Israel announced the closure of the crossings to the West Bank and Gaza Strip on October 5 and 7, coinciding with the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack. Based on the recommendations of the Israeli military, certain categories of Palestinians, such as healthcare workers, are permitted to cross the barriers under exceptions. Permits are also being issued for entry into Israel in coordination with the "Cogat" unit. In Gaza, aid shipments will not be allowed during the closure days, although aid already at the Kerem Shalom crossing will continue to be received, with no expected impact on the humanitarian situation. This decision is part of Israeli security measures aimed at enhancing security during the anniversary of the attack.
