Eleven soldiers buried after Deir ez-Zor explosion
Eleven soldiers died and ten others were injured in an explosion at a weapons depot in the town of Ayyash west of Deir ez-Zor. The explosion occurred as part of the ongoing process of transferring and storing weapons handed over by the Syrian Democratic Forces to the Ministry of Defense under the January 2024 agreement. This is the fourth such explosion this month, amid a pattern of repeated weapon depot explosions in various regions of Syria due to poor storage standards and the proliferation of unorganized storage sites. Investigations are still ongoing to determine the causes of the incident.
