Beirut seeks to renew UNIFIL mission
Lebanon is striving to strengthen its UN presence in the south before the UNIFIL forces' mandate expires at the end of the year, amid Lebanese-French efforts to revisit the Security Council decision. Lebanon is focused on maintaining the presence of a small international force to support the implementation of Resolution 1701 and to ensure stability, with officials emphasizing the need for an effective UN presence that exceeds previous expectations. Efforts continue in New York and in the south to ensure the continued presence of international forces as an international guarantee.
