Mauritania Protest Over Third Term
The National Rally for Reform and Development (Tewassoul) party in Mauritania organized synchronized protests across various states under the slogan "The Three No's." The demonstrations featured chants against the attempt to amend the constitution to allow a third term for President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, as well as against corruption and the decline of public services. Participants also called for the release of political prisoners and improvements in living conditions and essential services. These protests are in response to efforts to amend the constitution to permit a third term for President Ghazouani. The party reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful power transfer and constitutional respect, while criticizing restrictions on freedoms, corruption, and the deterioration of health, educational, water, and electricity services. Calls were also made for policy revisions and better conditions for citizens.
