US plans to limit Spanish imports and tariffs
The United States has proposed imposing a fine of $200,000 on ships flying the Spanish flag that dock in American ports, as well as restricting Spanish imports, particularly olive oil, cosmetics, oils, and ceramics. This is in response to Spain's prevention of three American ships from docking at its ports in 2024, ships that were carrying shipments related to the Gaza war. The U.S. indicates that Spain has created unfavorable conditions for American maritime shipping. The proposed measures are based on an investigation that began during the Trump administration and aim to deter challenges faced by Washington in its trade relations with Madrid. Spain, meanwhile, affirms its commitment to international laws and its efforts to defend its interests in cooperation with the European Union, despite current tensions.
