Israeli fire damages olive trees in southern Lebanon
The article discusses the targeting by Israeli forces of Lebanese farmers as they attempt to reach their lands and plant olive trees, particularly in southern Lebanon, amid ongoing security tensions. A retired military officer was killed while inspecting his home and olive trees. Additionally, around 600 ancient olive trees, some over 500 years old, were uprooted in Zutr El-Sharqiyeh as part of a French legal case accusing Israel of theft and destruction, potentially amounting to war crimes. The farmers have been prevented from accessing their fields for more than three years due to hostilities, threatening their livelihoods and cultural heritage. The olive tree is regarded as a symbol of identity and belonging to the land. Officials emphasize that targeting land and homes aims to erase their collective identity and force residents to leave their villages, despite their resilience and refusal to surrender.
