Iran reports tanker collision in Hormuz
The Iranian Navy announced that a giant oil tanker collided with a naval mine while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz via an alternative southern route, resulting in an explosion onboard. A warning was issued that neglecting navigation rules in the strait could lead to disastrous fires. Meanwhile, the UAE Coast Guard rescued 22 crew members from an oil tanker after a fire broke out aboard in the Arabian Gulf waters, with no details disclosed about the cause of the fire or the tanker’s name. These incidents come amid escalating security tensions in the region, where Iran is imposing restrictions on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and targeting vessels that pass through without permission. The events are linked to ongoing escalations between Iran, the United States, and Israel, with security conditions deteriorating over the past months.
