Abbas urges UNSC to halt settler violence
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on the Security Council to hold an urgent session to take measures to protect the Palestinian people, in light of the escalating attacks by settlers and the Israeli army in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. These include assaults on farmers, arson of their properties, and attacks targeting the lives and livelihoods of Palestinians, especially during the olive harvest season. He emphasized that the ongoing Israeli escalation poses a significant threat and endangers regional stability, holding the Israeli government responsible for the deteriorating situation, with an increase in attacks since the beginning of October 2023 and continued escalation in killings, destruction, and displacement.
