Raid in three southern Iraqi provinces
The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Agency announced a campaign of raids that included the provinces of Najaf, Wasit, and Dhi Qar, aimed at seizing light and medium weapons and arresting individuals accused of corruption, in coordination with judicial warrants. The campaign focused on inspecting areas where armed groups operate, engaging in smuggling and drug trafficking, and targeted figures close to leaders of Iraqi armed factions, reflecting its goal of supporting stability and preventing security threats. These raids were launched as part of a broad security and preventative plan, some of which are linked to the recent anti-corruption campaign initiated by the Prime Minister, especially after warrants were issued to freeze the assets of prominent MPs and officials, in an effort to reinforce the state's authority over faction-controlled areas.
