Israeli Project Uses Syria DMZ Sufa 53
Israel has been implementing the "Sufa 53" project since mid-2022 in the Quneitra Governorate in Syria, aiming to establish a military road approximately 8 meters wide equipped with defensive fortifications, including earthen barriers, observation points, and trenches along the buffer zone near the occupied Golan Heights. The project involves expansions of military activities within the area, with a gradual increase following the fall of Bashar Assad's regime in December 2024, where infiltrations have reached distances ranging from 300 to 1,000 meters into Syrian territory. This has been met with official Syrian rejection, with Damascus deeming these movements as violations of the 1974 agreement, which designates a demilitarized zone under United Nations supervision.
