Egypt and Ethiopia relations tense
The article describes the escalation of tensions between Egypt and Ethiopia regarding the Renaissance Dam and water security. Ethiopia announced the expulsion of a Egyptian diplomat, declaring him persona non grata, and Egypt responded similarly by expelling an Ethiopian official. This came after Ethiopia accused Egypt of supporting armed groups in Tigray. Egypt emphasizes that the waters of the Nile are a red line and that it does not interfere in Ethiopia's internal affairs. Meanwhile, the bilateral relationship is considered to be in a deliberately heightened phase, with calls for de-escalation and dialogue led by the African Union to reduce tensions and maintain diplomatic channels to resolve the disagreements.
