China's Deep-Water Oil Field Surpasses 2 Million Tons
The secondary development project of China's first deepwater oil field, LiuHua, has successfully surpassed a cumulative crude oil production of over two million tons, achieving this milestone last Saturday. Located in the Pearl River Estuary in southern China, it is the largest of its kind in terms of proven geological reserves. Since its initial startup in 1996, the field has produced more than 40 million tons of oil. The project encompasses two oil fields, LiuHua 1-11 and LiuHua 1-4, situated in waters approximately 305 meters deep. With 32 producing wells, daily production began in September 2024, reaching a record high of 3,900 tons. Operations rely on a modern floating platform, and through advanced technologies, an integrated production chain has been established, including oil extraction, processing, storage, and offloading. This reflects China's excellence in exploring and developing oil in deep waters and underscores the country's sophisticated independent capabilities in this field.
