500 diplomats condemn Europe's silence on Israeli settlements
Approximately 500 former European diplomats and officials called on the European Union to take action against the extensive Israeli settlement project in the West Bank, which threatens the Palestinian statehood option and increases the isolation of East Jerusalem. The demands include imposing sanctions on the institutions involved in implementing the project, banning trade with illegal settlements, and suspending the EU’s economic partnership agreement with Israel. This comes after Israel approved the construction of more than 1,200 housing units in the E1 project near Jerusalem, which isolates East Jerusalem and jeopardizes the prospects for an independent Palestinian state.
