Mauritania completes national dialogue committee
Morocco is approaching the launch of the national dialogue after the political parties agreed to establish an oversight committee. The number of its members has been increased to 23, and a mechanism has been set to propose independent figures and representatives of civil society, with a final deadline for submitting names by October 15. The committee has been prepared to coordinate six sub-committees that will address topics such as national unity, democracy, governance, and vulnerable groups, in addition to organizing and implementing the outcomes of the dialogue. This step comes after more than a year of stalled preparations, amidst tensions regarding the third presidential term and growing calls for extending the presidency. However, the technical progress made in forming the committee provides a momentum for the dialogue despite political challenges.
