Who guards the plane from cockpit threats
The incident involving Flydubai flight "FZ 1073," in which the co-pilot attempted to attack the captain with an emergency axe, opens a new chapter regarding cockpit security and internal threats in aviation. The investigation confirmed that the incident is considered an act of terrorism, raising questions about the effectiveness of pilot screening procedures as well as the aviation security system’s ability to handle threats from within the crew. The event also sparks concerns that the next threat could come from an authorized employee with access to sensitive areas, highlighting the need for ongoing review of psychological, security, and operational screening and hiring procedures to reduce such risks.
