Teenagers drawn in from games to ISIS
An investigation conducted by Bavaria Radio and SWR reveals how extremist Islamist groups exploit social media platforms and online games to attract young people. They use videos, closed groups, and games featuring violent scenes to boost support and radical ideas, taking advantage of young people's need for answers and a sense of belonging. The investigation also shows that some teenagers, like "Amir," began promoting extremist ideas and participated in threats and potential attacks before their attitudes changed, and they distanced themselves from extremist organizations. The findings indicate that current measures by companies and platforms are insufficient to curb extremist content, and families and communities face a significant challenge in countering digital extremism.
