German Army Chief on Modernization
The article centered around the German Army's modernization strategy through integrating traditional weaponry with modern technology, especially artificial intelligence and drones, with the goal of enhancing military capabilities. According to German Chief of Staff Carsten Breuer, tanks are no longer merely physical platforms but have become electronic systems capable of controlling drones, receiving data, and analyzing it within the battlefield. He also points out that all new weapon systems heavily rely on unmanned elements and artificial intelligence, and that the priorities in this modernization are increasingly focused on drones and robots rather than old equipment. Breuer emphasized that Germany is still in a rapid development phase, with the possibility of deploying kamikaze drones to serve the troops within months. Criticisms from institutions like the Kiel Institute highlight a lack of resource allocation for innovation in artificial intelligence and unmanned systems. However, Breuer intends to continue developing more advanced systems to strengthen the army’s modernization efforts through integrated modern technologies.
