Cuba blackout causes widespread outages
Cuba experienced a complete collapse of its power grid, leading to a total blackout across the country and plunging the capital, Havana, into darkness—especially after a failure in the high-voltage transmission lines. The collapse is primarily due to an outdated power generation system suffering from fuel shortages and deteriorating infrastructure. Additionally, the American oil embargo imposed since January has worsened the situation; before that, imports of oil from Venezuela and Mexico had been halted, increasing the frequency and duration of power outages. While some parts of the city have regained limited electricity, most of Havana remains in darkness, with outages lasting 30 hours or more in many regions. This situation exacerbates the residents' suffering and accelerates the deterioration of the already fragile infrastructure.
