Iraqi PM Security Advisor on Weapon Collection Timeline
The Iraqi Prime Minister's Security Advisor confirmed that the committee responsible for inventorying weapons held by the state does not have a fixed timeframe. The ultimate goal is to fully inventory all weapons before September 30, expecting armed factions to surrender their weapons or to engage with legal measures against those who commit to not surrendering. He explained that delays in implementation will not result in a definitive deadline, emphasizing that the current phase requires negotiations with the factions to ensure the removal of weapons outside the state's control by the final date. This comes as part of the Iraqi government's plan to achieve full sovereignty over weapons by October 1, following the deadline for surrender set by the government, with assurances that anti-terrorism laws will be enforced against those who do not comply.
