US Army Almost Intercepted Chinese Ship Over AI Mistake
CNN revealed that the U.S. military was on the verge of intercepting a Chinese vessel in the Middle East based on a faulty intelligence report supported by artificial intelligence, which mistakenly suggested that the cargo involved nuclear weapons. The operation was canceled after it was discovered that the AI had misidentified the nature of the cargo, nearly leading to a military escalation without properly identifying the vessel's contents or destination. This comes amid increasing concerns over AI errors and blindness, especially following the resignation of a researcher from a leading company and warnings about the risks of losing control, despite some leaders opposing restrictions on the development of the technology.
