Washington may pull back third of European troops
NBC News reported, citing American and European officials, that the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) is considering a plan to withdraw approximately 25,000 U.S. troops stationed in Europe. This would represent about one-third of the U.S. forces on the continent and would mark the first reduction of American military presence there since the end of the Cold War. The plan includes withdrawing troops, aircraft, ships, and munitions from countries such as Germany, Italy, and Spain, with the possibility of increasing the number of troops affected to 40,000. The final proposal is expected to be submitted to the Secretary of Defense on November 6, but no decision has been made yet. This step is part of a U.S. review aimed at reducing European reliance on American forces and strengthening NATO's responsibilities.
