Female employee linked to fake marriage ring
The newspaper "Bild" revealed that a female employee at the Foreigners' Office in Cologne, Germany, is facing charges of involvement in a network that arranged fake marriages and facilitated foreigners obtaining residence permits in exchange for money. The investigation began after a video surfaced in Cyprus showing a wedding ceremony at one of the doors of a location, featuring a Bulgarian woman and an Indian man, which raised suspicions among investigators that the marriage was staged. It is believed that the employee, who works in the "Arnulfeld" district, was part of an international network that collected around 76,000 euros through migrant smuggling. The group used Bulgarian women to conduct marriages in Cyprus while she handled the residence permit applications illegally. She, along with her husband and two other suspects, are currently in custody pending trial, which is scheduled for February 2027.
