Helsinki ceases migration checks but keeps Russia border closed
The article discusses Finland's decision to cease monitoring the flow of illegal immigrants across its border with Russia, with border crossings remaining closed since November 2023. The Finnish Foreign Ministry confirmed that all crossings have been closed for three years and that the phenomenon which initially prompted their closure is no longer observed, although no date has been set for reopening them. Data also shows that Finland loses one billion euros annually due to the absence of Russian tourists, and a Swedish reconnaissance plane is monitoring the Russian border from Finnish airspace. Additionally, Finland summoned the Russian ambassador to investigate allegations of a Russian aircraft violating Finnish airspace, while Moscow denies these claims, branding them as Western double standards.
