New US aircraft deal boosts Egypt's weapon supply
The article sheds light on Egypt's delivery of a new batch of Chinook CH-47F military transport helicopters from the United States, aimed at enhancing the balance of armaments within the Egyptian army. The U.S. Embassy in Cairo confirmed that this deal is part of the growing military and commercial partnership between the two countries, with Egypt having imported 12 helicopters valued at over $426 million to replace older models. Sources emphasize Washington’s eagerness to continue military cooperation with Egypt to safeguard its strategic interests, particularly in protecting the Suez Canal and preventing China or others from establishing military footholds in the region. This deal aligns with Egypt’s policy of diversifying its sources of military equipment, despite maintaining relations with countries like France and Russia, in order to strengthen military balance and achieve its regional interests.
