Libya: al-Debiba opponents threaten military councils
The article discusses the reactivation of military councils in Western Libya, which were established after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011, with the aim of organizing armed groups and managing security matters. The councils held a meeting in Misrata attended by representatives from 11 cities in western Libya, during which they vowed to form a union of councils. This comes amidst rising military tensions and the mobilization of armed forces in the area, with concerns about potential new armed clashes between militias—especially given the lack of official response from the Government of National Unity or media outlets to these developments. The councils oppose the government's political agenda and affirm their rejection of any attempts to share power, form clandestine governments, or impose faits accomplis through international deals. This is occurring amid increasing military tensions and movements of armed forces that could lead to an escalation on the ground in the region.
