A senior advisor to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that the latter may run for a new presidential term in a potential early election scheduled for April 16, 2028, instead of the constitutional date in May 2028, provided that 360 out of 600 parliamentary deputies support this. These remarks come after Erdoğan confirmed that he had previously stated he would not run again after his current term, which ends in 2028, but the parliament can call for early elections if it has majority support. This marks the first official indication of a possible run for office again, amid rising expectations and political pressures, especially with opposition forces calling for early elections.
