Egyptian athlete condemns racism
Ugandan boxer Aziz Abdul "Ringo," grandson of Idi Amin, was disqualified from the African Boxing Championship final in Nairobi after he threw a reckless punch toward his Egyptian opponent, Mohamed Hussein, at the end of the bout in the 90 kg weight class. The incident caused him to fall and deprived him of his silver medal. This was his second such incident in a year; he was previously disqualified from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after he delivered a headbutt to his English rival. Organizers accused him of bias and racism against Africans. It is worth noting that Aziz, 25 years old, is a descendant of Idi Amin, who ruled Uganda between 1971 and 1979, a period associated with massacres and the displacement of people of Asian origin.
