Senior German Official Demands Infantino's Resignation
Hans-Joachim Watzke, Vice President of the German Football Association, criticized FIFA President Gianni Infantino, calling for his immediate resignation. He expressed disapproval of Infantino's stance on the FIFA Peace Award awarded to Donald Trump, his handling of the case involving U.S. national team player Folarin Balogun, and the proposal to establish a commercial company for World Cup rights in an opaque manner. These statements indicate growing European and German opposition to Infantino and a decline in trust in his leadership, amid decreasing support from the German Football Association and calls for more transparency regarding his decisions. This reflects escalating criticism ahead of the FIFA presidential elections scheduled for March 2027.
