Newsom passes laws to protect California elections
Governator Gavin Newsom signed a comprehensive set of election-security bills aimed at safeguarding California’s voting process from interference, particularly efforts by the federal government and political actors. These laws prohibit ballot and voting machine seizures, restrict law enforcement activity near polling places, and expand early ballot drop-offs and multilingual voting materials. The legislation responds to concerns about law enforcement interference and attempts to manipulate or disrupt elections, with measures including felony penalties for ballot seizures and increased transparency requirements for political social media influencers.
