Atlético Madrid edges out Espanyol to challenge Barcelona
Atlético Madrid achieved a valuable victory with a late goal from Alex Baena over Espanyol (1-0) in the 9th round of La Liga, consolidating their second-place position with 22 points, just two points behind league leaders Barcelona with 24 points. Baena scored in the 89th minute after a pass from Julian Alvarez. Atlético maintained control of the ball despite Espanyol goalkeeper Angel Fortuno saving five shots.
