French stores face night of sabotage
An unprecedented cyberattack in France caused the temperatures of hundreds of retail store refrigerators to rise to 50°C (122°F) throughout the night, resulting in fires and extensive damage to large quantities of food. Authorities stated that the attack targeted internet-connected refrigerators, leading to widespread food losses, with approximately 150 stores from the Intermarché chain affected alone. All perishable foods were discarded to avoid health risks. The attack also affected a Dutch supermarket company, but the circumstances and connection between the attacks remain unclear. France is now investigating the extent of network damages and the potential impact on other countries.
