Southern region hit by 6.1 quake

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck southern Panama on Monday evening, at a depth of 10 kilometers, near the town of Rio Grande. This followed a series of larger tremors measuring 7.7 and 6.6, which caused landslides and evacuations. This activity occurs amidst ongoing seismic activity linked to multiple tectonic plates along the country's borders, although major earthquakes are less frequent compared to other areas in Central America. No immediate reports of casualties or material damage have been recorded, despite continued seismic activity in the region.
