China launches direct Gulf of Bebo route to Oman

China has taken an important step to boost car exports to the Middle East by launching a direct maritime route from the Gulf of Beibu port in southern China to the Port of Duqm in Oman. The shipment consisted of a record-breaking 2,727 Chinese-made vehicles, marking the largest single export shipment via the port. The voyage takes approximately 15 days and helps reduce transit time compared to traditional shipping routes. Additionally, Qinchao Port adopted a combined rail-sea transport system that links factories to the port, enhancing export efficiency. This development is part of efforts to expand China's maritime network connecting to Middle Eastern markets, with regular shipping lines now operating to ports in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. These initiatives have contributed to a significant increase in Chinese car exports, which reached 7.15 million units in the first eight months of 2026, a 66.7% rise compared to the previous year. Of these, 3.4 million vehicles were new energy vehicles, reflecting a 120% increase. In August alone, over one million cars were exported, with continued growth in energy vehicle exports at a rate of 130%.
