France protests grow over police response

The French police faced widespread criticism over their handling of the student protests, after a tear gas canister struck 14-year-old Eiden during protests in Saint-Jean-Lumon, resulting in a broken jaw and shattered teeth, according to his lawyer and family. An official charge of attempted murder was filed against the officer responsible for the injury, as the escalation of events led to multiple injuries among protesters and police amid a wave of widespread demonstrations against the state of education and policing in France. These incidents have also reignited calls to ban the use of weapons such as rubber bullets, amid growing public support for the protests ahead of the presidential elections scheduled for 2027.
