Britain Keeps Jerusalem Presence Renames Consulate

Britain announced that its consulate in East Jerusalem will not be closed and will continue to be known as "The British Mission in Jerusalem," remaining committed to providing services to Palestinians. This statement came in response to Israel's decision to shut down the consulate following London's plans to impose sanctions on settlements in the occupied West Bank. British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband affirmed that the British presence in the city dates back nearly 200 years and that the UK will work to strengthen its presence in Jerusalem in the coming months. He also indicated that the building will remain independent and continue its role in supporting a two-state solution, with ongoing discussions with Israel regarding the measures taken.
