Socialists aim for key government role

Dozens of candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are preparing to contest state legislative seats in the upcoming election, with at least 65 running across multiple states. Republican groups highlight these races as potentially shaping the future trajectory of the Democratic Party, citing the DSA’s influence on policy positions such as defunding police and promoting radical economic reforms. Some DSA-aligned candidates support progressive policies like government takeover of utilities and reparations, raising concerns among critics about their impact on state and national politics.
