Trump's envoy holds talks with Putin in Russia
The article discusses talks between U.S. Special Envoy Steve Weitkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg, aimed at exploring ways to end the war in Ukraine and launch comprehensive peace negotiations. The meeting demonstrated Russia's willingness to release American citizen Stiven Hopard, and the two sides debated issues related to resolving the conflict—including long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, economic cooperation, and plans to restart dialogue between the United States, Russia, and China concerning the Ukrainian situation. The results reveal tangible progress in the negotiations, with Ukraine reaffirming its demands for security assurances and refusing to relinquish territory, while Russia refuses to give up Donbas and calls for a reduction in the size of the Ukrainian military. The current cooperation aims to pave the way for direct, multi-party negotiations to find a political solution to the crisis.
