Nigeria records first Ebola case amid Africa outbreak
Nigeria has announced the detection of its first case of Ebola virus from the "Bundibugyo" strain in a woman coming from Uganda. She showed symptoms on October 7 and was confirmed to be infected on October 20. The woman is currently under medical isolation, and 44 of her contacts have been traced to help prevent the spread of the infection. This comes after a widespread outbreak of the same Ebola strain in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since May, with confirmed cases reaching 9,552 and 4,610 deaths as of October 20. Authorities have issued warnings that the outbreak may escalate, emphasizing the need for an urgent health response and coordinated efforts between countries to contain the virus.
