Israel transfers Qatari funds to Gaza
Investigative articles reveal that Israel was directly involved in channeling Qatari funds to the Gaza Strip to support humanitarian aid for its residents, despite political and media criticisms aimed at funding Hamas. Based on official correspondence and testimonies from officials, the Mossad director sent a message to Qatari sheikhs in 2020 expressing Israel's gratitude for the aid and affirming that the mechanism contributed to improving humanitarian conditions in Gaza. Nonetheless, Qatar unofficially requested to continue transferring the funds to ensure stability in the area, while Israel monitored and directed the distribution of aid through specific programs. Documents show that this cooperation persisted even before Hamas's recent attack in October 2023. Experts believe that ongoing support helped maintain Hamas's rule, and that Israel sought to bolster its influence through this system, despite internal and external criticisms and debates over the extent of the funds reaching Hamas itself.
