Israel examines police take on settler violence
Israel intends to transfer the responsibility for pursuing settler violence in the West Bank from the military to the Israeli police, following a series of attacks over the weekend. Defense Minister Yisrael Katz confirmed that civil tasks related to law enforcement should be entirely carried out by the police, and that the army will not return to implementing the administrative detention orders that it previously canceled. He also indicated that the plan includes organizing civil law enforcement activities in a way that separates the authorities of the army and the police, with discussions underway with the Prime Minister to implement this quickly and with the necessary resources. Katz stated that the solution lies in effectively applying the law by the police, not through the use of administrative detention orders.
