IMF and World Bank Meetings No Results
The meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank concluded that developing countries face significant challenges, including a rise in debt service payments that have more than doubled over the past decade to reach 14% of government revenues, thereby reducing spending on vital sectors such as education and health. International institutional officials also pointed to a slowdown in economic growth in developing countries, which has slowed to 3.6% compared to 4.4% previously, amid ongoing impacts from conflicts and global wars. The discussions revealed uncertainty regarding the effects of artificial intelligence and geopolitical tensions. No new initiatives were announced; however, the focus remains on improving preparedness for changes brought by AI and increasing private sector financing, amidst a decline in development aid and reduced foreign investments in developing nations.
