Egyptian Parliament delays troop powers for Saudi Arabia
The Egyptian House of Representatives suspended its emergency session, which was dedicated to discussing the authorization of the armed forces to take defensive measures to protect Saudi Arabia, following a call from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. This occurred without any clear outcomes or details about the discussions. Members of Parliament confirmed that the session will resume on Monday to give MPs a chance to express their opinions, after Sisi stressed the commitment to implementing any necessary action to safeguard Saudi Arabia if requested. The National Defense Council also decided to provide possible support to Saudi Arabia amid the escalation of Houthi attacks on its territory. These developments come as part of Egypt’s support for Saudi Arabia in facing the Houthi threats, amid ongoing military escalation since July 2023.
