American coach gets 90 years for covert filming
Judge Kristy Johnson sentenced former American gymnastics coach Shawn Gardner to 90 years in prison after being convicted of secretly filming his underage female students while they undressed and using bathrooms to record them, as well as producing child pornography. Gardner admitted to placing a hidden camera at a gymnastics center in Mississippi between December 2017 and April 2018, capturing more than 10 underage girls either nude or changing clothes, despite trying to cover up his actions for several years. The ruling raised questions about how effective measures are in protecting athletes from sexual abuse within American gymnastics.
