French journalist Christophe Glez's parents seek his release in Algeria
The parents of French journalist Christophe Gliz and Reporters Without Borders are calling for the French government to act swiftly to secure his release from prison in Algeria, where he has been held for approximately 500 days. Gliz (37 years old), who was arrested in May 2024 while covering news related to JS Kabylie, was sentenced to life imprisonment in June 2025 on charges of “glorifying terrorism.” This occurred amidst a diplomatic crisis between France and Algeria, which led to the withdrawal of ambassadors and diplomatic expulsions. Activists are urging for immediate international action to prevent his detention from being exploited as a political tool in the future, as the situation grows more complicated with the ongoing election campaigns in France.
