Britain Considers Visa Bans Over Migration
Britain threatens to deny Eritrean citizens entry to visas if Asmara does not cooperate with the repatriation requests for its migrant citizens, especially those who crossed by small boats and those convicted of crimes. Eritrea has refused to cooperate with London in the return efforts despite being given opportunities to do so, leading to restrictions imposed on its diplomats and their consular requests in Britain. These measures come after similar steps taken against other countries, with expectations of expanding the ban if these states do not respond to deportation requests. The number of Eritrean asylum applications in Britain is high, with over 6,900 Eritrean asylum seekers as of June 2026, and the acceptance rate for their asylum requests reaching 84%.
