Bassam Al-Hassan Resides in Lebanon Under Protection
The article discusses the Syrian Interim Government’s request for the extradition of Assad regime figures who have fled and are involved in crimes against civilians, particularly those who were part of the former Assad regime. One such figure is General Bassam Hassan, who lives in Lebanon and is under American-Lebanese protection. Hassan, who oversaw the chemical weapons program and was responsible for carrying out deadly chemical attacks, fled in 2024 following the fall of the regime. Investigative reports have revealed that Hassan is cooperating with American authorities in exchange for protection and benefit from information related to the 2012 kidnapping of journalist Austin Tice in Syria and his potential remains, although no concrete results have been achieved. It is noted that Hassan was a member of the Syrian regime leadership and participated in the execution of chemical attacks and crimes against civilians. He is the subject of an extensive international investigation and faces international sanctions due to his involvement in massacres and repression operations.
